This Saturday Sept 26th is our next race. We are working on a rain out makeup, but as of this writing we still do not have a date. Hopefully by Saturday we will know something. Also, NYIRP is having their annual “TRUCK” drag race after our race. Unhook your tow vehicle and win some money in the Pickup Truck race. They are paying $500 to win the Big Rig (Semi, Dump Truck) race. I will be entering my RV to represent the GRS in this race. Do I leave on the first or second Yellow light? Should be a fun day.
Our First ever Cash day, saw some of the closest racing of the season. In the Gasser Class, it came down to Billy Webb in his 1949 German Ford taking the win and first place money over Bill Samons in his wheel standing 1956 Chevy. This was Mr. Samons first time out this year with the GRS. In the Mod Class, it was Bill Quay in his 1964 Ford Fairlane (Thunderbolt) taking the win and top money over Rob Brooks in his 1968 Black Cuda. In our Consulation race (for first round losers), it was a Gasser vs. Mod final. Nick Defeo representing the Gassers took top money, with John Rossman in his 1969 “Nova caine” taking second place cash. With the extra race, we got done at 4:00, a little later than usual. We are working on a makeup for last week’s rainout. Stay tuned. Thanks to all who made for another great day of racing.
Looks like Mother Nature is going to give us a nice day for our race this coming Saturday, Sept. 5th. This will be our first ever “Cash Day”. See the Events page at gasserracingseries.com for details. One small change for our racing going forward. The track has requested that we flip our run order. So starting this Saturday the Mod cars will be called to the lanes first. Then the Gasser class. I think they want to save the best for last. As fast as we run, it should not make a difference in wait time. We are working on a makeup race date for last week. Stay tuned.
We need all of our members to take a look at some exciting news that is posted on our “Events” page at gasserracingseries.com.
Look at “Cash Day”. Pass the word to all members. Thanks, The GRS Board
This week we saw two new members in the winners circle (see Winners Circle at Gasserracingseries.com). In the Gasser class, it was Bill Curtis driving his 1958 Anglia (the Clown Car). There was no clowning around from Bill as he took the win over Ron Kirker, driving the Kirker Bros 409 powered 1931 Ford. In the Mod class, we saw an all “Nova” final. The win went to Jerry Croston in his 1971 Green Nova. This was Jerry’s very first race ever at NYIRP. It will be a memorable one. He took the win over John Rossman, driving his 1969 “Nova Caine”. The day’s racing can be viewed on our Facebook page, thanks to videos from Steve Quay.
